Big music stars to grace Butterworth debut festival

Thousands of music lovers are expected to descend on Butterworth next week for the first annual jazz, arts and cultural festival on Monday and Tuesday next week.

The inaugural Mnquma Jazz Festival promises a fascinating lineup of nationally acclaimed musicians such as South African Music Awards winning songstress Simphiwe Dana; Tsepo Tshola; Thandiswa Mazwai; Ifani; Zakes Bantwini; DJ 101; Jessica Mbangeni; Berita; Solomon Willy; Sosha; Amawele kaMamTshawe; DJ PK and others.

The music concert will take place at Gcuwa Dam outside Butterworth on Tuesday, although the two-day festival will kick-off at Walter Sisulu University’s Ibika Campus at 9am on Monday with training for Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs). That will be followed by a gala dinner at 6pm.

Daily Dispatch and CYASSOUND Holdings are among the event sponsors.

Municipal spokesman Pumlani Gabazana said the event had plenty to offer.

“The festival presents SMMEs with an opportunity to market their work, to train them in business ethics, principles and commercialising their businesses,” said Gabazana.

Rural development and agrarian reform MEC Mlibo Qoboshiyane and sport, arts and culture MEC Pemmy Majodina are expected to attend. Tickets cost R50 for general and R250 for VIP entry.
